Vulgari convicio μεθυσοκότταβοι dicebantur bene poti, quasi cottabo temulenti. Cottabus enim poculi genus est. Athenaeus libro XV refert ex nescio quo auctore – ex Aristophane, ni fallor :

Πόρνην δὲ Σιμαίθαν ἰόντες Μέγαράδε

Νεανίαι κλέπτουσι μεθυσοκότταβοι,

Scortum Simaethan Megaram abegit ac tulit

Furto juventus cottabis probe uvida.
